I think you are misinterpreting the mother advising her son not to have kids. I agree it could send the wrong message, but I don't think it implies at all that she would prefer for him to have never been conceived. Her reasoning might not be logical[maybe the son would make a great parent regardless of whether his kids inherited autism] but I would not assume the worst. I'm autistic and I plan on getting a vasectomy and either living with no kids or adopting, and heritable disabilities are part of the reason[serious mental issues run in the family], that does >not< mean that I think that people with such disabilities do not have worthwhile lives. There are some logical conundrums related to this and God's will and destiny and so on. In short, I don't believe in the preexistence of the soul so I don't believe that a person exists until they are conceived. This means there is a difference between not conceiving and abortion. I am opposed to abortion and antinatalism. I've pondered and prayed about what God would think about my decision [before coming to the decision] and I came to the conclusion that if God truly wills/plans for me to have kids, I want to embrace His will, but I also trust that He can reverse a vasectomy[which occasionally do not prevent conception] and that if my wife gets pregnant, I would embrace that and have no problem loving my child. Where it gets tricky is when thinking about God's role in conception. On the one hand, I believe that He has a hand in every conception/pregnancy. On the other hand, I see ambiguity in the role that our choices play. It appears that I could hypothetically seek to have as many children with as many women as I could. Would that be God's will? God does not will sin[polygamy, bigamy, fornication] but I do believe that every conception/pregnancy is His will[what others mean for evil, He uses for good]. But it seems like an intuitively bad thing to seek to have as many children as I can through sinful means, even though any lives conceived would be worthwhile and priceless. This seems like some sort of paradox. I feel it might be resolved by trusting that God knows how many people it is ideal to create, and He will see to it that there is no deficiency in the number of lives who are created. Would choosing to have fewer children by restricting myself to one woman be the same as preventing persons from existing? No, because the persons in this case would be purely hypothetical and don't exist or matter until they are conceived. It deprives nobody of life. It would only be depriving people of if you time traveled and prevented a conception that already took place and resulted in life! You can't deprive people who have never existed of life. If anyone feels strongly against this, it might be that you are called to have children. I have nothing against that, I am not an antinatalist and I believe that every person who has been conceived has a worthwhile life. People who have children are obviously supposed to regard their children as a blessing regardless of how they were conceived and regardless of their mental or physical health. People should not take it so personally when some of us choose not to have kids, you can choose not to have kids without being an antinatalist. To be fair, the case Jordan talking about IS a case of telling someone else that they shouldn't have kids, so some criticism is probably due in her case even though I wouldn't assume that she isn't thankful for her son.
